Fireplace

I bought this fireplace from the Kensington Dollshouse Festival in 1997. It's currently glued into my old dollshouse. I made the little tiles out of cardboard. I really want to take it out and put it into the new house, but I am worried that I will break it in the process.

This is my old house, bought in 1996 from the Dollshouse Emporium. I think it cost about £60. It's very basic and is part of the collection aimed at children. As a result, it doesn't have any screws or breakable bits and just slotted together. Over the years, I have painted it several times but it is now looking rather scruffy.

This is my new dollshouse. I bought it last week from the Sue Ryder shop. IT cost £99.99 - good value for such a big house. I love it - it's really nicely finished inside and wasn't too hard to put together.

Hello

The first dollshouse (dollhouse if you are American) was occupied by my pet hamster. He enjoyed walking up and down the little staircase and weeing in the corner of the sitting room. The other occupants of the house were a pair of rubber babies.

The dollshouse was a modern, child's toy. I got it for my 4th birthday. When I got up on the morning of my birthday, the dollshouse was hiding behind the curtains of my parents' bedroom. I was thrilled with it.

The house was quite large, with a triangular roof and a basement that came apart from the main house. You could use the flat room of the basement as a place for the dolls and hamster to relax and enjoy the fresh air.

I seem to remember that there was a pink plastic bath and a little bathmat made out of cardboard. There were holes in the walls where you could fit little lights but I don't think I ever did that.

My second dollshouse came from The Dollshouse Emporium. I bought it in 1996, after a failed attempt to make a wooden dollshouse from a part work magazine subscription. Every week, bits of the magazine dollshouse would arrive but the quality was rubbish and so I just collected the little dolls and models that came with the magazine and gave away the wood to an artist friend. This dollshouse was also a child's model, but I repainted it and decorated it inside and out.
